| Biopharma recently attended the 2010 meeting of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine
International Society (TERMIS) - EU Chapter in Galway, Ireland. The theme of the 4 day meeting was
'At the Crossroads: Development and Translation' and was well attended by over 700 delegates from as
far afield as Japan and San Francisco. Delegates were offered innovative and stimulating topics with
a well-balanced international programme of plenary speakers, oral presentations, rapid-fire sessions,
poster sessions and educational workshops.

Many delegates expressed a keen interest in the range of freeze dryers offered by Biopharma
and were keen to learn more about the technology which is often misunderstood. Our free publication
“An Introduction to Freeze Drying”
was well received and many researchers were able to gain some valuable insight in how to improve the
efficiency of their freeze drying and achieve greater consistency in results. VirTis freeze dryers
are renowned amongst researchers in the field of collagen and scaffolding technologies and a significant
number of Usifroid freeze dryer systems operate in large scale production facilities.
The Biopharma Group has been working closely with several customers to develop successful regenerative
medicine products. We have proven expertise in developing novel freeze drying processes for stabilising
mammalian cells, growth factors and matrices. Our extensive knowledge enables us to specify appropriate
freeze drying equipment for our customers.
Current projects include:
- Current Project Extending the shelf life of Human Red Blood Cells, a feasibility study founded by Technology Strategy Board
- Client process development for drying growth factors, collagens and surface modification of bioscaffolds
- Equipment specification for freeze drying growth factors, collagens and biomaterials
The social programme also provided an exciting taste of what Galway and the West of Ireland had to offer !
Other events Biopharma will be attending in 2010:
September 1st-3rd UK PharmSci
November 24th-25th BioProcess UK, Nottingham
December 9th Genesis 2010, London
